Finally, there are studies that seek to corroborate the suspicions of yesteryear: the improvement of the skin's appearance thanks to the intake of certain foods and/or supplements. The ancient beliefs that related certain foods to different improvements in the skin finally have the opportunity to be supported by more than books, internet and the vast wisdom of our elders. In this way, one of the aspects in which a remarkable change in the skin associated to the ingestion of certain foods has been observed is the coloration, since it has been demonstrated that the consumption of noni, persimmon, tomatoes and raw carrots, as well as the excessive consumption of the beta carotene supplement causes the skin to acquire an orange color.on the other hand, we find the branch of the wrinkles. It seems that eating vegetables, fruits, legumes and olive oil on a very regular basis will reduce the number of wrinkles on the skin, although the same cannot be said for excessive consumption of beta-carotene, polyphenols and vitamins in the form of supplements. In the case of facial wrinkles, there are certain supplements such as squalene and red ginseng root that do seem to have an effect on reducing them.
However, one of the products acclaimed as effective by popular wisdom, green tea, has not shown any positive results when it comes to wrinkles.another interesting point to address when talking about improving the appearance of the skin is the elasticity and roughness of the skin. In this case, it is worth mentioning that probiotics and carotenoids do not seem to have the protective properties that are usually associated with them and can even be harmful if used over a long period, since they significantly increase the minimum dose of erythema. Thus, there are many women who dare to claim a reduction in the appearance of cellulite thanks to the intake of various supplements, such as centella asiatica, ruscus, ginkgo extracts, melilotus, polyphenols... At the moment there is not enough evidence to be able to confirm the direct relationship between the intake of supplements or certain natural foods and an excellent appearance of the skin.
However, it is important to stress the importance of good lifestyle habits, such as good nutrition and sport, before considering supplements to improve the appearance of the skin, as without them this improvement cannot take place.
